About Us

Sly Boat Building & Repair Centre was established in 1965 as J L Sly Boat Builders under the direction of Jim Sly. In March 2013, Jim retired allowing his son Martyn to take the helm.
The trading name of Sly Boat Building & Repair Centre was born.
For over 40 years, Martyn’s experience and expertise as a qualified shipwright has earnt him a reputation of being one of the best in the business. Martyn, along with wife Sue, pride themselves on providing a high level of quality service to all customers. Whether it is from building a quality Sabre or just a minor repair to your boat, they will go above and beyond to ensure you get back on the water as soon as possible.
With a full range of repair services available, there is no job too big or too small that cannot be done at their Mordialloc Factory, along with limited services onsite at Sandringham Yacht Club.
The services available include repairs to all types of boats, whether they be OTB sailing boats, trailer sailors, powerboats or keelboats. These works could include fibreglass or timber repairs, antifouling, spray painting, rigging or roll swaging services, welding or building OTB custom built trolleys, just to name a few. With full lifting facilities within our factory and a temperature controlled room, no job is too difficult. For many years now, Martyn and Sue have also been involved in insurance work so if you have a little mishap, they can assist you with your claims process also.
With molds for the Sabre, B14, Minnow, Sharpie and Sabot classes, together with their temperature controlled room, you often see new boats flying out the door. In addition, as suppliers of new boats and parts for the Laser, Tasar, 29er, 29erXS, 49er, 49erFX, Optimist, Sabre and B14 classes, this sees Martyn and Sue as one of the most active providers in the OTB dinghy community across Australia. All this and more including suppling Mackay trailers trolleys, custom built trollies and a range of fittings and clothing from the likes of Ronstan, Gill, Harken, Riley and more.
If you need anything boating, Martyn and Sue’s Sly Boating Building & Repair Centre is definitely your one stop shop.
